In this session, I’ve explained the TOTALQTD function in Power BI — how it calculates the running total from the start of a quarter up to the current date, and how it resets once a new quarter begins.
We covered how a year is divided into 4 quarters:
– Q1: January–March
– Q2: April–June
– Q3: July–September
– Q4: October–December
We also looked at how TOTALQTD uses this quarter structure to accumulate values within each quarter.
I’ve also attached a practice dataset below so you can try this out yourself in Power BI and see how the function behaves with real data.

Feel free to try it out and drop your questions in the comments if you get stuck!
